Summer is the perfect time to sit back with a good book and immerse yourself in exciting stories. For our book club, we have selected some of our favourite books that not only entertain, but also inspire and make you think. Here are our recommendations for your summer reading:
Hannah Emde „Nachtschicht mit Aras: Als Tierärztin und Artenschützerin im Dschungel“
Hannah Emde, known as the presenter of ‘Terra X’, takes us on an exciting journey through the world's rainforests. In her book, she gives a lively and captivating account of her adventures as a vet and conservationist. Whether she is working with clouded leopards in Borneo, looking after colourful large parrots in Guatemala or observing mountain gorillas in Rwanda - Hannah's experiences allow us to take part in the action at first hand. At the same time, she vividly shows why the protection of endangered species such as the lemur in Madagascar and the bull shark in Costa Rica is so important and what we can all do to protect their habitat. A book that perfectly combines a sense of adventure and environmental awareness.
Frederik Pferdt ‘What's Next Is Now: How to Live Future Ready’
In a world full of uncertainty and constant change, Dr Frederik G. Pferdt, Google's first Chief Innovation Evangelist, shows us how we can best prepare for the future. ‘What's Next Is Now’ is not only inspiring, but also practically applicable. With six principles - optimism, openness, curiosity, experimentation, empathy and Dimension X - Pferdt provides us with tools to turn challenges into opportunities. With numerous exercises, illustrations and real-life examples, the book encourages readers to awaken their own spirit of discovery and actively shape the future. Essential reading for innovators, entrepreneurs and anyone who wants to change the world.
Marina Weisband “Die neue Schule der Demokratie: Wilder denken, wirksam handeln“
Marina Weisband, psychologist and committed democracy promoter, argues for a fundamental change in our education system in her latest book. She explains why democracy is not just a dream, but a skill that can be learnt. Weisband shows how important it is to experience self-confidence and personal responsibility and warns of the dangers of learned helplessness, which can favour extremism and populism. Her book is a passionate appeal for more room for manoeuvre in education and a call to fight for and live democracy again and again.
Shelly Kupferberg „Isidor: Ein jüdisches Leben“
Shelly Kupferberg tells the impressive story of Dr Isidor Geller, a multimillionaire art collector and advisor to the Austrian state. Despite his success and his conviction that he is untouchable, he has to face the horrors of the rise of National Socialism. Shelly Kupferberg tells the story of her great-grand-uncle, who fell victim to the Nazis in 1938 - a gripping biography and a moving testimony that sheds light on the highs and lows of an extraordinary life.
Be inspired by our recommendations for the summer. Whether it's adventures in the jungle, innovative strategies for the future, democratic education or historical biographies - there's something for everyone here. Have fun reading!
