In Germany, the last three nuclear power plants will go off the grid this weekend. In the course of the agreed nuclear phase-out, the three reactors Isar 2, Emsland and Neckarwestheim 2 will be shut down.
Many of our speakers are experts on the topic of energy
Among them, for example, Germany's best-known environmental economist Claudia Kemfert. The DIW energy expert believes that the energy supply is secure despite the nuclear phase-out because, as she pointed out to the newspapers of the Funke-Mediengruppe, the three remaining nuclear power plants currently in operation produce less than five per cent of the electricity generated in Germany. The topic of energy is also the subject of her keynote speeches. " The Battle for Electricity: Myths, Power and Monopolies" and "The Energy Supply of the Future", for example, are two of her lecture titles on the topic.
As former Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, our speaker Peter Altmaier also is an expert on the topic. Altmaier was a member of the German Bundestag for a total of 27 years, and from 2018 to 2021 he headed the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. In his free-flowing speeches, he talks about Germany's climate strategy and the prospects for economic development, among other things. Peter Altmaier is a gifted storyteller who impresses his audience with his expertise as well as his rhetorical qualities.
Our speaker Dr Jeffrey C. Grossman is a professor of materials science and engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and focuses on the future of energy production. New materials for energy conversion and storage are as much a focus of his research as the development of new thermal solar energy and three-dimensional solar panels. Through his appearances in the international media, Jeffrey C. Grossman is known to a broad public. He easily makes his research and its results understandable to a lay audience and arouses interest in the future of energy production.
Timo Leukefeld, specialist for the topic of living in the future and pioneer of the energy and solar industry, is also an expert on the topic of energy. Leukefeld has a vision of a real community reorientation in energy issues and of networked energy self-sufficiency. His company "Timo Leukefeld - Energie verbindet" advises politics, business, banks, building societies, municipalities and building owners on questions of shaping the future with a view to energy and resources. In his keynotes, our speaker Timo Leukefeld talks, for example, about "New ways of dealing with resources and energy" and about the "Energy transition 4.0: networked energy self-sufficiency".
