Jutta Kleinschmidt is one of the world's most successful women in motorsport. She is the first and so far only woman to have won the world's most difficult and longest rally, the Dakar Rally, in the overall classification. The studied physicist started her career as an engineer at BMW in 1987 and worked there in vehicle development until 1992. She discovered her love of rallying and especially of the legendary Paris-Dakar desert rally in the 1980s: She took part in the Pharaoh Rally in Egypt and first rally successes with the motorbike encourage Jutta to give up her job and become a motorsport professional. In 1997 Jutta Kleinschmidt was the first woman to win a stage in the Paris-Dakar Rally and in 1999, she and her co-driver Tina Thörner were the first women's team in the world to lead for three days - they finish third in the overall standings. At the end of 2000, Jutta Kleinschmidt won the runner-up title in the overall ranking of the Cross Country Rally World Cup. In 2001, she achieved her greatest sporting success to date with her co-driver Andreas Schulz: victory in the legendary Paris-Dakar Rally. In 2005, she was again the first to cross the finish line. She also mastered routes outside the desert like the French ice race series Trophée Andros or the Nürburgring, where she competed several times in 24-hour races. Extremes and speed are Jutta Kleinschmidt's passion: she crossed the Alps by bike, participates in the Race Across America together with Joey Kelly and runs in the Ötztal Marathon. She has had a licence as a helicopter pilot since 2004.
