He is a founding member of the Freiberg Institute for Networked Energy Self-Sufficiency, which was established in 2016. As head of a project group, Timo Leukefeld is developing Europe's first affordable and actually energy self-sufficient house and bringing it to market. Based on this experience, he is now developing networked energy self-sufficient buildings in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The "Energy Ambassador of the Federal Government" was involved as a member of the Saxon Innovation Advisory Council as well as the Enquete Commission "Strategies for a future-oriented technology and innovation policy in the Free State of Saxony". He is a board member of the Sonnenhaus Institute and was state president of the Advisory Council of the Economy (Federal Association for Sustainability and Ecosocial Market Economy). Timo Leukefeld is the recipient of numerous awards, such as the "Nachhaltiger Mittelstand" (Sustainable SME) sponsorship award of the Ethikbank, the Marketing Award of the German Crafts Association, the Innovation Award of the MDR and several times the German Solar Award of Eurosolar. He has already been nominated twice by ZDF for the German Environmental Award of the German Federal Environmental Foundation DBU.
