One of the most successful Extreme Mountaineers

Hans Kammerlander is one of the most successful extreme mountaineers of our times. Hans Kammerlander was the first mountaineer in the world to achieve one of the two versions of the Seven Second Summits, i.e. the second-highest mountains on each of the seven continents. In addition to numerous first and solo ascents in the Alps, Hans Kammerlander (*1956) has climbed mountains in Asia and South America. Together with Reinhold Messner, he achieved the first double ascent of eight-thousanders: Gasherbrum II directly followed by Hidden Peak. From 1996 to 2006 Kammerlander held the record for the fastest ascent of Mount Everest in only 17 hours. In 2002, in cooperation with ARD and WDR, he succeeded in broadcasting a live ascent of a peak in the Himalayas. In total, he has undertaken around 40 expeditions in the Himalayas, the Karakorum and other parts of the world. So far, he has completed around 2500 climbs all over the world, including 50 first ascents and he has achieved 60 solo ascents in the VI degree of difficulty. From 1988 to 2003 he ran the Alpine School South Tyrol, which he took over from Reinhold Messner in 1988. In 2002 he was appointed "Official Ambassador of the Mountains" in Berlin and in the same year he received the "Rotary Prize" from the provinces of Trento and South Tyrol for his special achievements and services to aid projects in Nepal. For many years he has been involved with the "Nepalhilfe Beilngries". In 2005 he was awarded the "European Ski Award" by ISPO and in 2006 a square in Sand in Taufers was named after him. In addition to many television appearances on major television stations at home and abroad, Hans Kammerlander gives numerous lectures about his expeditions and mountain tours. He talks about the addiction of extreme mountaineering and about his path that leads him ever higher. He also advises mountain sports outfitters on the development of outdoor products and has been the owner of a specialist mountain sports shop since 2008.
