Guenter Netzer is a legend of German football. After ending his active career as a football player he worked for many years as a popular expert on TV. His entertaining and profound moderations of international football matches were as fabulous as his active football carrier used to be. Born 1944 in Moenchengladbach, Guenter Netzer has become one of Germany’s sports idols of the 1960s and 70s. Aged 19 Netzer became German football champion with his then Team Borussia Moenchengladbach in 1970 and 1971. In 1973 he transferred to Real Madrid, where he became cup winner in 1974 and 1975. His last active football season he spent at Grashoppers Zuerich. From 1978 until 1986 he was manager of Hamburger SV. During this time HSV became football champion in 1979, 1982 and 1983 as well as winner of the European Cup in 1983. After 1986 Netzer worked as advisor of FC Schalke 04 and as a co-presenter of a German football magazine. Besides he started to manage a sports agency in Zuerich. From 1997 until 2010 Netzer worked for German TV-channel ARD in a presenter team with Gerhard Delling at international football matches. He has become one of Germany’s most popular sports commentators. His moderations together with Gerhard Delling enjoy cult status and were awarded the Adolf-Grimme-Preis in 2000.
