Günter Netzer is a legend of German and international football. Even decades after his playing career, his expertise is in high demand both at home and abroad. As a player, manager and TV expert, he has played a decisive role in shaping the game of football over many years. Born in Mönchengladbach in 1944, Günter Netzer began his professional career at Borussia Mönchengladbach. At the age of just 19, he led the club to promotion to the Bundesliga. With Borussia, he won the German championship in 1970 and 1971, before moving to Real Madrid in 1973. There, he won the Spanish Cup twice and the Spanish league title in the 1975–76 season. He ended his playing career with Grasshoppers Zurich. After retiring from playing, Günter Netzer took over as manager of Hamburger SV from 1978 to 1986. During this period, the club won the German championship three times and the European Cup in 1983. In the early 1990s, Netzer also served as an adviser to FC Schalke 04 and gained his first experience as a TV presenter at RTL. At the same time, he set up a sports agency in Zurich specialising in the marketing of television rights and perimeter advertising. Together with Gerhard Delling, Günter Netzer also achieved cult status as a TV commentator. For many years, he shaped football coverage on German television.
