Bertrand Piccard is an internationally renowned adventurer and aviation pioneer. He is the initiator and founder of the Solar Impulse project, as part of which he flew non-stop around the world in a solar aeroplane. Piccard comes from a dynasty of researchers and scientists. The Swiss pioneer Bertrand Piccard, known for his ambitious projects, is not only the balloonist of modern times, but also an active environmentalist and visionary. He is the founder and president of the humanitarian foundation ‘Winds of Hope’ and a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador. As early as 1992, the pioneer of free flight won the Chrysler Challenge, the first transatlantic balloon race, and as the initiator of the Breitling Orbiter Project, he achieved the first non-stop round-the-world flight in a hot-air balloon in 1999. In 2000, Bertrand Piccard flew through the night for the first time in his solar-powered Swiss Solar Impulse, followed in 2012 by the world's first solar-powered intercontinental flight together with his co-pilot Andre Borschberg. In 2016, Bertrand Piccard founded the World Alliance for Clean Technologies with the aim of supporting start-ups and established companies in the development of solutions that both protect the environment and are economical. He is already working on his third world record adventure: he wants to be the first person to fly around the world in a hydrogen aeroplane. Bertrand Piccard is a master in combining science and adventure to promote a sustainable lifestyle. He has already received numerous awards for his commitment. He became a knight in 2001 and an officer of the French Legion of Honour in 2017, and has received the Olympic Order as well as the highest awards from the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale, the National Geographic Society and the Explorer's Club. A psychiatrist by training, he has published numerous books about his adventures, on psychological topics and on the subject of life coaching, and is a campaigner against the climate crisis. He shares his experiences, visions and insights in his fascinating talks, which create a ‘goosebump atmosphere’.
