Prof. Dr. Dr. Mario Tobias (*1971) is economist and natural scientist with more than twenty years of professional and management experience in economic policy, corporate management, political consulting and sustainability management. He is Chief Executive Officer of the Potsdam Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the second largest regional chamber in Germany, which he has led through a fundamental change in recent years regarding digitalization, human resources management, customer focus, lobby strategy and communication. Tobias studied Applied Ecology, Geo Ecology and Environmental Law as well as Economics. In 2000 he received his doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) and in 2007 his doctorate (Dr. rer. pol.) at Freie Universität Berlin on policy innovations in resource management in industry. Since 2005 Tobias has been honorary professor of economics at the Institute for Automotive Economics and Industrial Production at TU Braunschweig. In 1997 Tobias joined a municipal administration in Lower Saxony. In 2000 he moved to Berlin to join the newly founded "Federal Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media" (BITKOM) and became head of the department for environmental policy and sustainability. From 2005, he was responsible on the management board for technologies and services, representing the interests of IT services, broadband, security, consumer electronics and green IT and initiating various partner projects with ministries, associations and trade fairs. In 2011, Tobias was Secretary General of the new Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies, which worked with former Federal Minister Klaus Töpfer and Nobel Prize winner Carlo Rubbia to explore the social discourse on energy system transformation and climate change. Tobias himself is developing stakeholder dialogues with industry and NGOs in the research programme "Enabling Technologies for Sustainability", including the economic use of CO2. Tobias is a member of numerous national and European committees and networks. He advises selected international companies and is speaker and moderator at conferences and panel discussions.
