Waldemar Hartmann is a legend among sports presenters. Known for his humour he was one of the most famous faces of ARD sports reporting for many decades. After a newspaper traineeship in Augsburg, Waldemar Hartmann (*1948) went to Munich to work for Bayerischer Rundfunk. He worked as a radio presenter and reporter in the field of politics and current affairs until 1979, when he was appointed to be founding presenter of the "Rundschau" on Bavarian Television. In the mid-80s he switched to sport. In the course of its career he presented ten Olympics, eight football World Cups and European Championships as well as many Nordic and ski alpine events. For ten years he also presented boxing sports events for ARD. Together with Harald Schmidt he very successfully presented “Waldi and Harry” during the Olympic Games in Turin and Beijing – a lively mixture of sports and entertainment. Since the "Sommermärchen 2006" he has been providing entertaining football analyses on ARD with prominent guests following international matches of the German national team in "Waldis Club". In 2009, he developed his cabaret stage show "Born to be Waldi", which was celebrated by the feuilleton and in 2013 his autobiography "Dritte Halbzeit" was published by Heyne-Verlag and became one of the SPIEGEL bestsellers. The readers of SPORT BILD voted Waldemar Hartmann the most popular TV presenter. In 2007, Hartmann was awarded the "Golden Camera" for an advertising spot with Oliver Kahn.
