Since 2004, Mojib Latif has been Professor at the Leibniz Institute for Oceanography in Kiel, Germany. Prior to that Mojib was a lecturer at the Max-Planck-Institute in Hamburg. He has conducted research at several of the leading institutes in the world, such as the Scripps Institute for Oceanography in La Jolla, California, the BMRC in Melbourne, and CIMAS/RSMAS in Miami, in the variation of ocean temperatures over previous decades and centuries. Mojib Latif was one of the first scientists to identify the burning of fossil fuels as a cause of global warming and has received many international awards for his work. Mojib Latif has won numerous international scientific prizes: in 2006 he received the Norbert Gerbier – Mumm International Award; in 2004 he was awarded the DUH (German Environmental Assistance) Media Prize; in 2000 he won the Max-Planck-Institute Prize for “Public Science” and in the same year won the Sverdrup Gold Medal from the American Meteorological Society. He is the publisher of scientific journals such as the Monthly Weather Review and the Journal of Climate.
