Anders Levermann is one of Germany's most renowned climate scientists. He is head of the Complexity Research Department of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, a physics professor at the University of Potsdam, a researcher at Columbia University, New York and scientific director of the zeean project. Anders Levermann (*1973) studied physics in Marburg and Kiel and received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the Weizmann Institute in Israel in 2003. Since 2003 he has been researching at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. In 2006 he also took up a junior professorship at the Physics Institute of the University of Potsdam where he is professor for the dynamics of the climate systems since 2007. Since January 2019, he has headed the Complexity Research Department. In his research, Prof. Dr Anders Levermann is primarily concerned with the so-called tipping processes in the climate system. Research stays have taken him to the USA, Australia, China and India, among other places. His expertise covers past and future climate change as well as its consequences for society and possible global adaptation strategies. The climate scientist publishes in journals such as Nature, Science, Nature Climate Change and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, USA, as well as in newspapers such as the Süddeutsche, the Frankfurter Allgemeine, the Huffington Post, the Guardian and the Economist.
