The Mexican conductor Alondra de la Parra is one of the most sought-after conductors of our time. She belongs to the generation of young and new conductors and has already conducted more than 100 of the world's most renowned orchestras. Her captivating and lively performances and her commitment to Latin American composers have earned her a great deal of attention in recent years. Born in New York in 1980, Alondra de la Parra moved back to her family's native Mexico at the age of two. She began playing the piano at the age of seven and took cello lessons shortly afterwards. She was educated at a private school in London, studied composition in Mexico City and later piano and conducting at the renowned Manhattan School of Music in New York. Conductors such as Kurt Masur and Charles Dutoit were among Alondra de la Parra's mentors. Over the past decade, Alondra de la Parra has conducted the world's most renowned orchestras, including the Orchestre de Paris, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Camerata Salzburg, the Orquestra Sinfônica de São Paulo and the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. Further highlights were her debuts with the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra in the Elbphilharmonie, with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, at the Beethovenfest Bonn, the BBC Philharmonic and a live orchestral accompaniment to the film ‘West Side Story’ in the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico. From January 2017 to November 2019, she was Music Director of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, making her the first ever female principal conductor of an Australian orchestra. She is an official cultural ambassador for Mexico, where her first album ‘Mi Alma Mexicana’ achieved platinum status, and was appointed international brand ambassador for Mercedes-Benz in March 2017. Since July 2017, Deutsche Welle has been broadcasting ‘Musica Maestra’, a new classical music format in which Alondra de la Parra appears as a protagonist and reporter in several web videos and television programmes. From September 2024, she will be Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of ORCAM, the Orquesta y Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid. Alondra de la Parra moves between cultures and musical genres, embodying a new type of conductor. In her fascinating lectures, she shares among other things her thoughts on modern leadership.
