Armin Nassehi is a sociologist and intellectual par excellence. He is Professor of Sociology at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and Vice-President for Legal, Economic and Social Sciences at LMU. His research focuses on decision-making in complex situations and the interactions between different social perspectives in economics, politics, science, media and culture. Born in Tübingen in 1960, Armin Nassehi grew up in Munich, Landshut, Tehran and Gelsenkirchen. After studying education, philosophy and sociology in Münster and Hagen, he obtained his doctorate in sociology in 1992 and habilitated in 1994. After serving as a visiting professor in Münster and Munich, he was appointed to the Chair of Sociology at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich in 1998. In addition to his academic work, Nassehi is involved in numerous committees, including the Scientific Advisory Board of the Fritz Thyssen Foundation, the Board of Directors of the Research Institute for Philosophy in Hanover and the Munich Competence Centre for Ethics. In 2024, he was appointed to the German Ethics Council by the Federal Government and has been a member of the Senate of the German National Foundation since 2020. He was voted best speaker at the university by his students. Armin Nassehi is also known to a wide audience through his television appearances and publications. In his series ‘GMBH – Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung’ (GMBH – Limited Liability Company) on BR-alpha, he addressed the central issues of our time, from social responsibility to the limits of individual freedom.
