Lars P. Feld is one of Germany's top economists and one of the country's most renowned economic experts. He was a member of the German Council of Economic Experts for a decade until 2021, and is economic advisor to Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner. After studying economics at Saarland University, Lars P. Feld (*1966) received his doctorate from the University of St. Gallen in 1999 and habilitated there in 2002. From 2002 to 2006 he was professor of economics, especially finance, at Philipps University in Marburg. He then held the chair of the same name at the Ruprecht Karls University of Heidelberg until 2010. Since 2010, Lars P. Feld has held the Chair of Economic Policy and Regulatory Economics at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and is Director of the Walter Eucken Institute. His research focuses on economic policy, finance, new political economy and economic analysis of law. Since 2003, Lars P. Feld has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board at the Federal Ministry of Finance. In 2007, he was appointed as an expert for the Commission of the Bundestag and Bundesrat on the Modernisation of Federalism Commission II and contributes in an advisory capacity to the new German debt brake. In March 2011, he was appointed to the German Council of Economic Experts and was also its chairman from March 2020 to March 2021. At the end of 2013, Lars P. Feld was elected to the Advisory Council of the German Stability Council and in January 2020 he was appointed as a scientific member of the Minimum Wage Commission. In February 2022, Federal Minister of Finance Christian Lindner appointed him as the Federal Minister of Finance's personal representative for macroeconomic development. In this function, Lars P. Feld supports the Federal Minister of Finance in assessing macroeconomic issues. Lars P. Feld is a permanent visiting professor at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim as well as a member of the Leopoldina (National Academy of Sciences), the Kronberger Circle and the Mont Pèlerin Society. On 02 November 2017, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Lucerne.
