Andreas Dombret is an economist and banking expert who was formerly a member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank. Having worked as an investment banker, central banker, banking supervisor and advisor to leading financial institutions and corporations, he knows the international financial system from almost every angle. He now supports international organisations and companies with strategic issues and has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the neo-bank N26 since 2025. After training as a banker at Dresdner Bank, he studied business administration, earning his doctorate (Dr rer pol) from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. Since 2009, he has been an honorary professor at EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht. He also teaches as an adjunct senior research scholar at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University in New York, and serves on the board of the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT) in Berlin. His international career has taken him from Deutsche Bank to JPMorgan in London and Frankfurt, and then to Rothschild, where he joined as a partner and co-head of the management board. From 2005 to 2009, he was Vice Chairman Europe at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, responsible for business in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. From 2010 to 2018, he served on the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank, overseeing areas including banking supervision, financial stability, markets, and statistics. During this period, he was also a member of the Supervisory Board of the European Central Bank within the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and the Committee on Financial Stability. Until the end of 2018, he also sat on the board of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), contributing to the international development of financial market regulation. Following his departure from the Bundesbank, he took on advisory roles with a number of internationally active companies and financial service providers, including Oliver Wyman, Autonomous, Sumitomo Mitsui, Amazon Web Services, Permira and Banco Santander. His experience of working with private financial institutions, central banks and international organisations has made him a highly sought-after expert on issues relating to financial markets, regulation and economic policy developments. In his keynotes and as a panelist he combines strategic insights with extensive practical experience, explaining complex economic relationships in a clear and understandable way.
