Univ.Prof. Dr. Markus Hengstschläger studied genetics at the University of Vienna, also conducted research at Yale University in the USA and was finally appointed university professor at the Medical University of Vienna where he now heads the Institute of Medical Genetics. The multi-award-winning and internationally recognised scientist teaches students and is active in the fields of genetic diagnostics, basic research and innovation consulting. He is a recipient of the Grand Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic and is, among other things, vice-chairman of the Austrian Bioethics Commission, vice-chairman of the Austrian Council for Research and Technology Development, a member of the University Council of the University of Linz and head of the Academia Superior think tank. Hengstschläger is also a science presenter on ORF Radio Ö1 and author of three No. 1 bestsellers.
