Jana Pareigis is a journalist and presenter of ZDF heute Nachrichten. She is one of ZDF's most prominent faces and became known to a broad public as the presenter of the Morgenmagazin. After graduating from high school in her native city of Hamburg, she moved to Zimbabwe for one and a half years, where she did voluntary work with children in Harare and took her first steps in journalism. After her return, she studied political science and African studies in Hamburg, New York and Berlin. In 2008, she joined Deutsche Welle as a trainee and anchored the station's flagship TV news programme from 2010 to 2017. For Deutsche Welle, she also filmed the documentary "Afro.Deutschland" (2017), for which she investigated the question of how it is to live with black skin colour in Germany. She has been working for ZDF since 2014. Initially, she presented the Morgenmagazin, travelled as a reporter during state elections, reported on political topics, and presented special programmes such as from Great Britain on the Brexit vote. Since 2018, she has anchored the Mittagsmagazin and, from July 2021, the main news of the public broadcaster with the Heute Nachrichten at 7 pm.
