Enrico Letta served as Italy's Prime Minister from 2013 to 2014, and as Secretary of the Democratic Party from 2021 to 2023. He is currently President of the Jacques Delors Institute and Dean of the IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs in Madrid. Born in Pisa in 1966, Letta holds a doctorate in European Community Law. He began his political career in the youth movement of Democrazia Cristiana. From 1998 onwards, he held various ministerial posts, including Minister for European Affairs and Minister of Industry. From 2004 to 2009, he was a Member of the European Parliament. In 2013, he became Prime Minister of Italy, leading a grand coalition government until 2014. His decision to arrive at his inauguration in a Fiat was seen as a symbolic gesture against political privilege. Following his resignation, he took on a leading role at Sciences Po in Paris in 2014, before returning to politics in 2021 as Secretary of the Partito Democratico. He served again as a member of the Italian Parliament until 2023. In 2023, the European institutions tasked him with drafting a report on the future of the Single Market. Titled 'Much More Than a Market', the report was published in April 2024. Since November 2025, he has been Dean of the IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs at IE University in Spain. In recognition of his achievements, Letta has received numerous awards, including Spain’s Gran Cruz for civil merit and the French Légion d'Honneur. As an expert on European economic and political affairs, he analyses the central challenges of our time in his lectures.
