Stephan Rammler is one of the leading voices in German future and mobility research. As a political scientist and sociologist, he combines scientific analysis with an eye for social transformation processes. Today, Prof. Dr. Stephan Rammler is Scientific Director of the IZT - Institute for Future Studies and Technology Assessment in Berlin and Professor of Transportation Design & Social Sciences at the Braunschweig University of Art. Born in 1968, he studied political science, sociology, economics and environmental management in Marburg and Berlin. After completing his doctorate on the subject of ‘Mobility and Modernity’, he worked at the Technical University of Berlin and the Berlin Social Science Centre. There he focused on innovation theory, the growth dynamics of transport, the sociology of the automobile, and climate and transport policy issues. In 2002, he became a professor at the Braunschweig University of Art. In 2007, he was appointed founding director of the Institute for Transportation Design, which deals with issues of future mobility. In 2009, he initiated the research focus ‘Cultural Transformation Processes’ at the HBK, and in 2010 he founded the ‘GetLab – Laboratory for Social Transformation’. In doing so, he established platforms that combine scientific expertise with practical design approaches. In 2018, he took over as director of the IZT in Berlin. There, he is responsible for interdisciplinary projects on digitalisation and sustainability, energy and innovation policy, and cultural change. He is also the author of numerous publications, including the much-discussed books Schubumkehr (2015) and Volk ohne Wagen (2017). His current focus is on the analysis and design of transformation processes in mobility, energy and society. As a speaker, Stephan Rammler not only conveys scientific findings, but also provides guidance and perspectives for politics, business and society.
