Consultant for Innovation Ethics

Minou Friele is an analytical philosopher with many years of experience in providing practical ethics advice. She supports companies and teams in overcoming ethical challenges and in developing and implementing convincing and practicable corporate ethics. Minou Friele studied philosophy, history and media studies at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf. After completing her studies and various international research stays, including at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, and at the Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics in Oxford, she received her doctorate in Düsseldorf in 2006 with a thesis on the legal and ethical challenges of research on human embryos. The dissertation was graded summa cum laude and honoured with the Hans Hermann Franzke Prize of the Technical University of Berlin. During her doctorate, she gained her first experience in scientific policy advice as a project manager in an international think tank (European Academy for Research into the Consequences of Scientific and Technological Developments GmbH). Already at that time, her work focussed on ethical challenges in the context of medical and technical innovations. Milou Friele also conducted postdoctoral research on practical ethical issues in politics and society, including as a visiting scholar at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. Her academic research and teaching activities have taken her to the universities of Bonn, Düsseldorf and Cologne, among others, where she gained further experience in academic policy consulting and finally in ethics consulting for companies. In recent years, she has increasingly focused on questions of digitalisation - in medicine and beyond. Since 2021, Minou Friele has been an independent consultant, author and speaker and continues to be associated with the academic world as a guest lecturer, including at the Institute for Legal Issues in Medicine at the Faculty of Law at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf.
