Prof. Dr Dietrich Grönemeyer is a physician and founder of microtherapy as a combination of interventional radiology, minimally invasive surgery and pain therapy. He holds the world's only chair for radiology and microtherapy at the University of Witten/Herdecke. Grönemeyer (*1952) studied medicine in Kiel, Sinology and Romance languages and literature in Bochum and graduated in human medicine in 1978. In 1982 he received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Kiel. In 1990 he completed his habilitation at the University of Witten/Herdecke. As a doctor, Grönemeyer initially specialised in radiology. Since the 1980s, he has particularly championed what he calls microtherapy. In 1991 Grönemeyer founded his "Development and Research Institute for Microtherapy" based at the University of Witten/Herdecke. Five years later the "Grönemeyer Institute for Microtherapy" followed as an outpatient therapy facility in Bochum and in 2005 the "Grönemeyer Clinic for Micromedicine" in Essen. Since 1996 Dietrich Grönemeyer has held a professorship for radiology and microtherapy in Witten/Herdecke. In 2007 he founded the Dietrich Grönemeyer Foundation. In publications and lectures, Grönemeyer a new perception of medicine in society as well as undogmatic interdisciplinary cooperation between the most diverse disciplines for the benefit of the patient. For years he has advocated the introduction of health education in schools and is a regular guest speaker at the "Children's Universities".
