Jörg Rocholl is President of the international business school ESMT Berlin and Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board at the Federal Ministry of Finance. The renowned economist is one of the leading voices on issues of corporate finance, sustainable finance and governance. His academic career began at the University of Witten-Herdecke, where he graduated with honours with a degree in economics. This was followed by a Master of Philosophy and a PhD in Finance and Economics from Columbia University in New York. After serving as an assistant professor at the University of North Carolina, he joined ESMT Berlin in 2007 as an associate professor, later becoming the holder of the EY Chair for Governance and Compliance. He has been president of the university since 2011 and has also held the Deutsche Bank Professorship for Sustainable Finance since 2022. He is also involved in numerous committees, including serving as member of the supervisory board of RWE AG, as a research fellow at CEPR and as a scientific member of the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI). He is also chairman of the scientific advisory board of the German Federal Bank's research database and service centre as well as a research professor at the Ifo Institute in Munich and deputy chairman of the Economic Advisory Board of Deutsche Welle. Rocholl has received several research fellowships from Columbia Business School, Kenan-Flagler Business School, and the FDIC. He has been recognised for his teaching with the Weatherspoon Teaching Award from Kenan-Flagler Business School and several ESMT Best Teacher Awards. His research on sustainable finance, corporate governance, financial intermediation, and central banking appears regularly in leading journals such as the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, and the Review of Financial Studies. He also has a strong public presence, with international media outlets such as the New York Times, the Financial Times, the FAZ and the Handelsblatt reporting on his work.
