Dr Martin Braml is a foreign trade economist, political consultant and teaches international trade policy at the University of Passau. Martin Braml studied economics in Munich, Copenhagen and Barcelona. He then worked as a research intern at the Reserve Bank of India in Mumbai. Martin Braml completed his doctorate on the political economy of free trade agreements and the logic of trade wars at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU). A six-month research stay took him to Stanford University. As an economist, Martin Braml worked for more than four years at the ifo Institute for Economic Research in Munich, where he gained his first experience in the field of scientific policy advice. He then spent two years as a Research Economist at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva, where he worked in particular for an intergovernmental arbitration tribunal. In 2022, he moved to the German Federal Ministry of Finance in Berlin. Since 2018, he has also been CEO and co-founder of the policy consultancy Munich Economics. His main areas of expertise are foreign trade, globalisation and international macroeconomics. In these areas, he has played a key role in shaping economic policy debates in Germany. He is therefore frequently interviewed as an economic expert by national and international television stations and is a guest author for various media. Due to his expertise, Martin Braml is a much sought-after keynote speaker and participant in panel discussions.
