Thomas Kopinski is Professor of Data Science and Machine Learning at South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences, where he is responsible for the corresponding degree programme. His research focuses on forward-looking topics such as neural networks, deep learning and human-centred AI. With third-party funded projects worth millions, for example on intelligent knowledge networking in companies or the analysis of competence profiles using deep learning, he is actively shaping the transfer of science into practice. Prof. Dr. Thomas Kopinski has been combining in-depth research with practical application for almost two decades: at universities, in industry and in elite sports. His professional career began with the founding of a start-up for app development, followed by research positions in Hamburg, at Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences and at the renowned Université Paris-Saclay, where he also earned his doctorate (summa cum laude). His focus: AI that understands people, for example through gesture recognition, natural interaction or transparent decision-making processes. Kopinski researches and speaks on key topics such as collective intelligence and hybrid AI, i.e. the collaboration between humans and machines. Whether in applied AI for business and industry or in the ethical discourse on fairness and transparency, Kopinski brings technological depth and social responsibility to the conversation.
