For our latest Chat Club Aktuell episode, I was able to speak to Walter Lindner, the former German ambassador to India.
Lindner is a diplomat with a passion for music. As a musician, he has not only released eight CDs to date, but has also always used music as a means of diplomacy, not always strictly adhering to protocol conventions.
His long career in diplomacy has taken him to several countries, including Venezuela, South Africa and Kenya. Walter Lindner brings with him a wealth of experience and insight into global politics and cultural exchange.
The exotic top diplomat
During his time as ambassador, he was considered an exotic figure among top diplomats and ‘Germany's most colourful ambassador’. In the course of his career, the experienced crisis manager was, among other things, spokesman for Joschka Fischer and State Secretary at the Federal Foreign Office under Sigmar Gabriel. Most recently, he was German ambassador to India.
Understanding the BRICS countries
Walter J. Lindner offers a detailed explanation of the BRICS nations - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - and their importance on the global stage. He talks about the origins and goals of this economic alliance and its influence on international relations and the global economy.
The Indian political landscape
We also discuss the recent elections in India and the success of Prime Minister Modi. Lindner analyses Modi's political strategies, the election results and the implications for India's future both domestically and internationally.
Authentic, pragmatic and unpretentious - this is how Walter Lindner has remained throughout his diplomatic career and this is also how he impresses as a speaker. He also delivers his keynotes in English, French and Spanish and is fluent in Turkish and Portuguese.
