Rüdiger Grube is one of Germany’s most recognised leaders. He was Chief Executive and Chairman of the Management Board of Deutsche Bahn AG from 2009 to 2017 and since 2017 is Chairman of the Board of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG HHLA which is among Europe’s leading port logistics companies. His professional career began with an apprenticeship as a metal aircraft fitter at Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm. After studying automotive engineering, aeronautical engineering and professional and business education at the University of Hamburg, Grube completed his doctorate in production engineering in 1986 and initially worked as a lecturer and consultant - again for MBB, among others. From 1989, he took on management positions at MBB, Deutsche Airbus GmbH and Daimler-Benz Aerospace. In 1996, he moved to Daimler-Benz AG, where he was head of corporate strategy. As Senior Vice President, he was later responsible for the global corporate development of DaimlerChrysler - in particular for the expansion in North East Asia. In 2009, Grube became Chairman of the Executive Board of Deutsche Bahn AG - a position he held until 2017. During this time, he played a key role in shaping the further development of the railway as an integrated mobility and logistics group. At the same time, he also headed DB Mobility Logistics AG until 2016. Since 2017, Rüdiger Grube has been Chairman of the German investment banking division of US bank Lazard. He is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Vossloh AG and the Hamburg Port Authority, among others. He is a member of several supervisory bodies, including the Board of McLaren-Mercedes AG, and is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the German National Foundation. As an honorary professor, he teaches at Hamburg University of Technology, specialising in management, mobility and logistics.
