Stephan A. Jansen (born 1971) is a German economist and was President of the Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen. In May 2003 he used scientific stations at the universities of Stanford and Harvard and was appointed founding president and CEO of the Zeppelin University, the state-approved, private foundation university in Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance. In the same year he was also the Minister of Science and a professor at the local Department of Strategic Organization and Financing called SOFI. At the time of his appointment, he was 31, the youngest university president. Jansen is the author of over 100 publications in the fields of organizational and network theory, corporate mergers. Education systems analysis and some other topics. He writes a regular column in German daily and weekly newspapers (eg Financial Times, or bi-monthly on fire one), and ist co-editor of and is co-editor of “Journal of Management”. His research interests lie in communication and organization-theoretical analysis of networks, capital markets, corporate mergers, cities, government and administration, as well as education systems. From 2006-2009 he was a member of the personal advisory group of federal Finance Minister Peer Steinbrueck. Since 2007, Jansen has been a member of the jury the "cluster" in the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and a member of the Research Alliance of the Federal Government. Mr. Jansen became a member of the Chancellor's department heads in September 2010 and is a member of the Chancellor round, "Innovation Dialogue" of the federal government. He has also been an advisory board member of BBDO Germany and Ernst & Young. Before the construction of the Zeppelin University, Jansen founded in 1997 the "Institute for Mergers & Acquisitions (IMA) in Witten/Herdecke and 1999-2001 three companies, of which at least one, for cosinex GmbH in Bochum, market-leading software and consulting company Electronic Government is still software. Jansen has also received numerous grants (including Academic Foundation Herbert Quandt, Fulbright, DAAD) and awards (including the Financial Times, Business Week, NEON, Capital, manager magazine, listing the 100 heads in the Land of Ideas "by Federal President Horst Köhler). His other interests are teaching students, contemporary art and minimal electronic music.
