Fritjof Capra is a world-famous physicist and systems theorist. In his groundbreaking work, he made the first systematic attempt to compare the statements of modern physics and Eastern philosophy. Fritjof Capra advocates a sustainable ecological way of life in a global civil society. He is considered the "guru" of the New Age movement that emerged in the early 1980s, but from which he distanced himself in later years. Fritjof Capra (*1939) was born in Vienna and grew up in Carinthia and Tyrol. In 1966 he received his doctorate in theoretical physics from the University of Vienna and then taught and researched in the field of high-energy physics at the Sorbonne in Paris, from 1968 to 1970 at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and in 1970 at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, as well as from 1971 to 1974 at Imperial College London, University of London. He then worked at the Ernest Orlando Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory at UC Berkeley from 1975 to 1988. He also published several articles and worked on the parallels ("convergence") between Eastern mythology, mysticism and philosophy on the one hand and modern physics on the other. For more than 30 years he has also been concerned with the philosophical and social implications of contemporary science. Fritjof Capra is the founding director of the Centre for Ecoliteracy in Berkeley, California, which promotes sustainable schooling. Dr Capra is a member of the Beahrs Environmental Leadership Program at the University of California, Berkeley and teaches at Schumacher College, an international centre for ecological studies in England. Numerous of Capra's books have become international bestsellers and he is a much sought-after interview partner and talk show guest in the media. He frequently gives management seminars to top executives in Europe, North and South America, and Japan and in his captivating lectures, he is able to present his complex work in a way that is understandable even to a lay audience and to open up new, exciting perspectives to his listeners.
