Uwe G. Krupp is one of the most successful German ice hockey players and coaches. The two-time Stanley Cup winner in the NHL was the first German winner of the Stanley Cup in 1996. His extraordinary career was crowned in 2017 with the admission to the IIHF Hall of Fame, he is also a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame Germany. Krupp began his career in the German Ice Hockey League in 1982 at the age of just 17. In 1986, he was elected to the All-Star-Game and to the best defender of the DEL. After successful years at home, he moved to North America, where he played a total of 810 games for various teams, making him the German with the second most frequent appearances within the NHL. In 1991 and 1999, he is given a very special honour by being voted into the NHL Allstar Game. In 1986 and 1990 he participates for Germany in the Ice Hockey World Championships, in 1996 in the World Cup of Hockey and in 1998 in the Olympic Games. After his career as a player, he first worked as a coach in the USA. He then became coach of the U18 and U20 youth teams of the German Ice Hockey Federation and from 2005 to 2011 he was the successful national coach of the German national ice hockey team, which he sensationally led to the semi-finals of the World Championship in 2010. From 2011 to October 2014 he was the coach of Kölner Haie, and afterwards the coach of Eisbären Berlin for three and a half years. From May 2018 to January 2020 Krupp was head coach of the traditional Czech club HC Sparta Prague before returning to the Cologne Sharks as head coach in February 2020.
