Antonia Rados is one of the most experienced and best-known war correspondents on German-language television. For more than four decades, she has reported from war zones and crisis regions around the world, providing her audience with insights into conflicts, political upheavals and social developments that continue to shape international affairs to this day. In particular, her reporting on the 2003 Iraq War and on the democratisation movements in North Africa and the Middle East in the spring of 2011 – which was often broadcast live under life-threatening conditions – earned Antonia Rados international recognition. A political scientist with a PhD, she worked from 1979 as a freelancer for ORF and as an author of feature reports and documentaries in Lebanon and Iran. In the years that followed, she reported from Eastern Europe, including on the revolution in Romania in December 1989. During her television career, she subsequently worked as a special correspondent for ARD, as head of the RTL bureau in Paris, and as the broadcaster’s chief foreign correspondent. She worked briefly for ZDF and, until her retirement in 2022, was chief foreign correspondent for the broadcasters of the RTL Media Group. Antonia Rados (*1953) has received numerous awards for her journalistic work. These include the Austrian Romy Media Prize for the documentary Unser Freund Saddam, the Hanns-Joachim-Friedrichs Prize and the German Television Prize. She has received the Robert Geisendörfer Prize and the Bavarian Television Prize, and in 2014 she was awarded the “Golden Media Lioness” in Austria for her life’s work to date. Since stepping away from television in 2022, Antonia Rados continues to see her mission as inspiring courage and vigilance in people. She is a much sought-after speaker, works as an entrepreneur and is the founder of the “Woman Club A+ Friends The Social Hub” in Vienna.
