Utz Claassen is undoubtedly one of the most charismatic corporate leaders in Germany. Over the past twenty years, he has held management positions at large companies in various branches of industry. As reorganization expert he is known as a competent and communicative manager, who understands to represent his point of view also public-effectively. Today he is an entrepreneur and management consultant.
After studying economics at the University of Hanover and at Oxford University, Utz (*1963) began his career with McKinsey. He then moved to Ford Europe, where he was eventually appointed Director of Research and Development at VW, before becoming a Director at SEAT (part of the VW Group).
In 2003 he moved to the the publicly quoted Sartorius AG and oversaw a major restructure of the company. He then joined the energy company EnBW, the third largest in Germany, and transformed the company to profit. He sold off a number of businesses and built an annual turnover of E18bn with a workforce of 18,000 employees. He has held many other senior roles in the energy sector and was briefly Chairman of Solar Millennium AG in 2010. Since 2008 he is founder and main shareholder of Syntellix AG and until 2018 he also was chairman of the supervisory board of Syntellix. Since January 2018 he is CEO and chairman of the executive board of the company.
During his impressive career he has received numerous awards and decorations so far. Among them the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the State of Lower Saxony and he was the first foreigner ever to be honoured with the Cross of the Order of Saint Nicholas, Moscow which he received from the former Russian Deputy Prime Minister November. With the “Légion d’Honneur” he was awarded the highest national French decoration in 2006. With his company Syntellix he was winner of the Innovation Award of the German Economy and in 2016 Utz Claassen received from the hands and under the patronage of Günther H. Oettinger, EU Commissioner Digital Economy & Society, the award as “Most Innovative Entrepreneur International 2016”.
Since 2001 is actively teaching honorary professor at the University of Hanover, where he also is University Ambassador since 2009. And he has a teaching position at the faculty of economic sciences at the Georg August University Göttingen and also is professor of management at the GISMA Business School in Hanover.
