Dr André T. Nemat is one of the most sought-after experts in digital health and digital ethics. He is the founder and managing partner of the Institute for Digital Transformation in Healthcare at Witten/Herdecke University, which has been promoting human-centred digitalisation in healthcare since 2017. He holds his teaching position as a member of the Faculty of Health and Medicine. After studying engineering and medicine, Nemat has worked for over fifteen years as a chief physician for thoracic surgery at maximum care hospitals. As Medical Director and Procurist of the Virtual Hospital NRW, he played a key role in developing a telemedicine platform on behalf of the Ministry of Health of North Rhine-Westphalia that digitally connects the transfer of knowledge between clinics, doctors and patients. In doing so, he made a central contribution to the digital networking of the German healthcare system. Driven by his fascination with cutting-edge technologies, Nemat now focuses primarily on the ethical and social consequences of digital progress. He founded the consulting unit b.yond and is a member of the board of the International Data Spaces Association e.V., where he advocates for the secure and sovereign use of health data and for a future in which technological innovation and human responsibility remain in balance. Since 2025, he has been co-founder of synaplan, an AI company that develops management systems for AI workplaces. His thoughts constantly revolve around the same question: How far should digitalisation go when it comes to human life, lifespan and dignity? Nemat is convinced that artificial intelligence will fundamentally change medicine and that, when used correctly, it can help us rethink health and longevity.
