Record-breaking Referee, One of the best Referees of all time

Felix Brych is one of the most successful, best-known and most popular football referees. He is a two-time world referee, six-time referee of the year in Germany and record referee in the Champions League with 69 matches as well as in the Bundesliga with 344 matches. With five matches in 2021, he is also the record holder in the final round of a European Championship or World Cup tournament. In the list of "Best referees of all time", Felix Brych is in third place behind Pierluigi Collina and Markus Merk. Felix Brych (*1975) studied law in Munich after graduating from high school and received his doctorate in law from the University of Regensburg in 2004. In addition to his work as a referee, he is head of the Talent Development & Refereeing department at the Bavarian Football Association. Dr Felix Brych has been a DFB referee since 1999, refereeing Bundesliga 2 matches since 2001 and Bundesliga 1 matches since 2004. Felix Brych became a FIFA referee in 2007 and has refereed matches in the Saudi Arabian league since 2008. In the same year he made his debut in the UEFA Champions League and in the 2009/2010 season he became a member of the UEFA Elite Group. By the end of his international career in 2021, Brych had officiated 96 European Cup matches and 54 international matches. Since suffering an injury during his 344th Bundesliga appearance in November 2023, Brych has been working on his comeback and is working as a video assistant referee in Cologne. Felix Brych has officiated at all major international football tournaments in recent years.
